They…come in with weapons, they seized a half-million dollars worth of property, they shut our factory down, and they have not charged us with anything,” says Gibson Guitars CEO Henry Juszkiewicz, referring to the August 2011 raid on his Nashville and Memphis factories by agents from the Departments of Homeland Security and Fish & Wildlife.
The feds raided Gibson for using an...

I did not know that a redeeming quality of this abused font is that it has been found to make reading easier for dyslexics. That’s kind of cool.
Unpopular opinions:
I still like Nic Cage and I’ve never had a problem with Comic Sans.
As the link shows, it has its place. But unfortunately, too much of a good thing can turn very wrong. I read...

Some have a gift for poetry,
But it’s rarer than we oft’ see.
Looking ‘round here or there,
That is how it seems to me.

memory foam for me felt like a death trap.. it was like sleeping in an oven and I couldn’t move around at all.
Yeah, I’ve slept on one of the thicker memory foam mattress pads and that was my experience as well. I was wondering if the matresses proper were any different. If they are no more firm,...

We got the tempurpedic. I love it. Ken hates it. Just my two cents.
Why do you love it? Why does he hate it? Is there an issue with heat retention?
fistaphobia replied to your post: Sleep number bed vs. memory foam
I love the Sleep Number. We have a king with dual zones. Most comfortable bed I have ever slept on.
How...

Conversations with myself
Self: Hey, you’ve got a lot of work to do today and you’re in a pretty bad headspace. You should probably stay off tumblr today.
Self: Yeah, right.
Sleep number bed vs. memory foam
Any recommendations? I’m ready to give up inner-spring mattresses and I love the idea of a sleep number bed because of the flexibility, but I’ve read some pretty damning cons. Memory foam holds no appeal for me because of the heat retention and the sinking, but I read tons of rave reviews.
Anyone have experience with these beds? Any thoughts?
I hate being a drama llama, I really do
But I’m at a point where I’m really beginning to evaluate my sense of self worth. (Please, please, please do not interpret this as a plea for complements or whatever – the last thing in the world I want right now is false assurances.)
I came to grips some time ago with the fact that my youthful ego hid a deep insecurity, but I have never been quite sure from where that insecurity sprang. I’ve...
I am feeling pretty shitty
Hopefully it goes up from here.
I sometimes think I have a handle on things
But I keep returning to behavior I can’t stand. I do not know what to do.

Musical Taste
incognito-jewels:
If you had to describe your musical taste using words only (NO examples), how would you describe it?
I like dark, emo-ish but kinda sexy music, with a European sensibility. Not electronic music, but with electronic elements to it.
How’s about you?
My musical taste is pretty eclectic, but for the most part I trend towards technically complex, melodic, and heavy music....

To be fair
Recent data provided by the Bureau of Justice Statistics shows a marked drop in the number of people killed by “intimates.” However, the number of men killed has seen a sharp decrease while the number of women killed has been a very gradual one.
So while the earlier chart, focusing on sentencing and homicide “reasoning” is probably off, we obviously have a long way to go in protecting our sisters,...

My first barbecue event of the year is March 17
Less than a month away!
I can’t wait. I got the confirmation phone call tonight. However, this will be a first for me. Instead of judging the event I will be working the turn-in table.
There are pros and cons, well con, to this. The con is that you have to judge a certain amount of events to become a master judge, so this is one less event to add to that number. The pros include...

Truth: Career, the wool over my eyes and public...
I joined the Army as a 46Q – Public Affairs Specialist/Print Journalist. All I saw the day I signed that contract was “print journalist.” Not my dream career, but I wanted to be a writer and this was something I’d always had in the back of my head as a backup career. But, you see, military journalism isn’t “journalism” as much as the Defense Information School attempt to teach you...

anarchyandscotch replied to your post: Truth: PR vs. Journalism
Whenever I teach beginning newswriting, I always spend a day or two on PR. My favorite moment in those lessons is looking at their faces when I tell them that 95% of the quotes in press releases are made up.
This is troofax.
I can’t tell you how many quotes I write for our SMEs. Now, there are some who decide to rewrite them,...
Truth: PR vs. Journalism
One of the major differences between PR and journalism is that in PR, a lot of your writing is debated in committee. Words, phrases and meanings are debated, sanitized, “branded” and beaten.
At best, you work to make the ambiguous less so.
It’s frustrating when the ambiguous is made more so at levels above your paygrade.

Reblog if you want (1) creepy compliment.
The first time I played this game, I read that as “creepy comment” not “compliment,” so, I was probably pretty creepy.
