Syfy is the bane of my existence. It’s a love/hate relationship. Gah!For those who haven’t had the pleasure, SG:U has been a bright spot in the otherwise uneven lineup on Syfy. The series took the very arcane plot-driven canon of Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis and copied some sensibilities from the new Battlestar Galactica to make something both familiar and exciting.
Where Battlestar Galactica only happened to be set in space, SG:U’s approach has been to make the standard “exploring space on a big ship” genre seem challenging and slightly frightening — to restore the wonder of being out there in the unknown. SG:U falls back on some standard Stargate technologies like the gates themselves and some exotic stones that can swap consciousnesses across the universe, but it’s largely about surviving in a difficult situation.
I had a feeling things weren’t going well for the show based on some recent episodes that seemed to rush things along. And now Syfy, in its pursuit of filling yet another cable network full of bullshit programming, is going to push this away. Enjoy your wrestling and ghost hunter shows, jackwagons.
Well I find this a bit depressing. I actually enjoy this show.
AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!
I gave up the satellite a while ago, but this is, well, I guess, was, one of the shows I still watch. So frustrating. Apparetnly we need a Sci-Fi 2 (fuck that siffy thing) now to actually show decent science fiction shows again.
